Use the following method to reset your windows password by altering the Ease of Use icon to open cmd.exe. Then use net user to modify password:
- Boot from Windows Installation CD/DVD/USB
- Select Repair your computer
- Select Advanced Options
- Open Command Prompt
- In the command prompt type
copy c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\
copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe Press Y when prompted to overwrite
- Reboot
- On the log-in screen click the Ease of Access icon (this will open cmd.exe)
- In the command prompt type
net user yourusername yournewpassword
- Close the cmd.exe
- Log-in with the new password
To reverse the exe change for Ease of Access icon open cmd.exe and type
copy c:\utilman.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe
